Day 12 – Tosantos

Tosanto’s claim to fame is the “Our lady of the crag – Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña la Chiesa” hermitage built into the sides of the limestone cliffs. The church was locked but the architecture is impressive.

Leaving Santo Domingo this morning I passed this decorated marker.  I come across abandon boots fairly regularly.

Santo Domingo is the patron saint of the town named after him. He is celebrated with colorful wall murals around the town.

Today’s walk towards Tosanto was a long flat slog along side of a major highway.

I purposely pushed an extra 4.8km beyond the larger town of Belorado and it’s more commercial alburgues.

This is the only show in Tosantos but it is reasonable, small scale and quiet.

I’ll need a good night sleep before tomorrow’s 24km long and 500m ascent/descent.
