Day 2 – Roncesvalles

This was supposed to be the killer climb but it was actually a lot easier than yesterday, just longer.

Last nights stay in the Orrison Refuge was a textbook Camino experience right out of the movie “The Way”.

Communal dinner with traditional Basque cuisine, half a dozen languages talking at the same time, unlimited red wine.  Lots of people in various walks of life but mostly retired folks in a phase of personal reflection on a successful life .
I’m still dumbstruck by walking through 500 year old pastures with ancient stone sheds, chapels on hillsides overlooking miles of Pyrenee mountain peaks and dodging Citroens racing around hairpin curves on single lane roads.

Tonight I’m staying in a converted 12th century monastery that has 71+ beds on my floor.  I’m sure none of the other pilgrims snore loudly though.

Still only text-capable bandwidth.
Maybe more pics tomorrow.
