Day 37 – Santiago de Compostela (2nd day)

The frescoes are on either side of the “Door of Forgiveness ” which is generally closed except during “Holy Year”, a year when July 25th falls on a Sunday.  During those years, people line up to enter through this door.  This is not a Holy Year.

To me, it looked like the characters in the frescoes were having their own private jokes about the people passing by.

In Galatian, my hotel name means “Palace Sour”.  I think it loses something in the translation.

I spent a good part of today sorting my worldly possessions into 2 piles.  Those to carry forward for the remaining 3 weeks of my trip and those to ship home.

Since I have officially completed the Camino stage, I am not going to be walking as much.  So, hesitantly, I downsized to a regular school backpack and donated my hiking backpack and walking poles to the Pilgrim House here in Santiago.  They help outfit down on their luck pilgrims.

Tomorrow I do a little more sightseeing and prepare for a 3-4 day excursion to Muxia and Fisterre.

Buen Camino,
