The Weather Turned Last Night
When I woke up this morning, the blue sky was now overcast and the predicted high temp for the day dropped ten degrees from yesterday. Something had changed overnight.
When I opened my email over breakfast there was the regular newsletter from Dan Pedersen’s Blog only the title was “Final Words” and it was written not by Dan but by Dan’s wife Sue and their daughter Jennifer. It was brief and to the point. It contained the message that all of Dan’s readers had been expecting over the past several months and the following link to Dan’s final blog entry entered posthumously.

Dan was not a famous author, socialite, or politician. He was just part of the fabric of Whidbey Island. His writing, both blog and books, illuminated many parts of the island and its environment through the lens of the curmudgeon that he was and the common folk characters of his mystery series.
Those who knew him both in person and vicariously more than admired his talent and whim. They formed sort of “Dan Pedersen cult” which lived amongst his blog comments and social media venues.
Dan acknowledged each entry with some sort of sensitive response. We were all his friends, no matter the actual connection.
So the Whidbey Island culture proceeds, richer for the fragments of Dan’s intellectual and humorous DNA that are scattered online, in our local bookstores, and soon, in the salty brine of the Salish Sea.
Thanks Dan,
– Your friend Jason
